Missed Miscarriage: What are they? – Antai Hospital

Missed Miscarriage

Missed miscarriage is where the embryo or fetus did not form or has died, but the placenta and embryonic tissues remain in the uterus with no physical miscarriage. According to clinical statistics, there are about 43 disorders that can cause a missed miscarriage. Immunological disorders account for 67% of missed miscarriages. Anatomical disorders account for 14%. Endocrine disorders account for 11%, genetic factors account for 5%, while the remaining disorders account for 3%.

If a missed miscarriage just happened, do not clear the uterus immediately. Ideally, you should remove the embryo with hysteroscopy. Before the surgery, doctors will conduct ultrasound, hormonal, and anti-embryonic antibody tests. During the surgery, the embryo’s condition, the uterus cavity, and the implantation position of the embryo will be assessed. After the surgery, the embryonic chromosomes will be studied.  All these will ensure a more comprehensive examination, and, in this way, the cause of the miscarriage can be diagnosed and treated in a short amount of time.

There are usually no symptoms if the embryo or fetus did not form or has died. The majority of the patients only find out after an ultrasound is done. After the death of the embryo or the fetus, the uterus stops growing and will start to shrink. Early symptoms of pregnancy will also fade away. If the pregnancy has already reached the second trimester, the belly will stop growing, and the fetal movements will stop. During a check-up, the gynecologist will notice that there is no heartbeat coming from the fetus anymore.

If you have a history of miscarriage, look for the cause and get treated before getting pregnant again to avoid miscarriage. When you are not menstruating, check for endocrine disorders using Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) and anti-embryonic antibodies present in your body. You are also recommended to do a colposcopy, lipiodol hysterosalpingogram (HSG), and a four-dimensional transvaginal color doppler ultrasound. The cause of your miscarriage can usually be diagnosed with these tests, but some may require an endoscopy for further examination.

Three Characteristics of Safe Pregnancy

  1. Fast and Accurate Diagnosis: numerous examinations are done all at once. The result of each test takes an average of one hour to be ready. The equipment used is measured digitally, ensuring accuracy.
  2. Safe and effective treatment: One treatment can treat multiple contributing factors of recurrent miscarriage. To ensure the normal development of the fetus, treatments should be done pre-pregnancy and during pregnancy. There are no side effects, and a contract can be signed for assurance.
  3. Full Refund Guaranteed : both international medical insurance and domestic maternity insurance are available.

Miscarriage Symptoms

The main symptoms include discharge of blood from the vagina, abdominal pain.

For early miscarriage, patients will usually experience vaginal bleeding without abdominal pain. For late miscarriage, patients will usually experience sudden abdominal pain, followed by vaginal bleeding.

Signs and Rates of Missed Miscarriage

A missed miscarriage is often known as a silent miscarriage because people often don’t exhibit the most common miscarriage symptoms, such as:

  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Heavy cramping
  • Expulsion of fetal tissue

However, some may notice that their pregnancy symptoms, like breast tenderness, nausea, or fatigue, may disappear. Some women may also have brownish or red vaginal discharge.

Approximately 1-5% of all pregnancies will result in a missed miscarriage.
