Achieving Twins: Natural Pregnancy Approach

How can you obtain two embryos or twins in a single pregnancy? This technique is quite straightforward and can be achieved through natural pregnancy methods, without the need for assisted reproductive technologies. So, how can it be done?

First and foremost, it’s crucial to undergo pre-pregnancy examinations to ensure no underlying issues. This includes a normal semen analysis. Assuming all pre-pregnancy tests come back normal, you’ll need to visit the hospital around days 3 to 5 of your menstrual cycle to complete the admission process.

Next, we will administer injectable ovulation-inducing medications. Why injections, you might wonder? Because oral medications can be less accurate due to variations in gastrointestinal absorption. Thus, we opt for injectable medications designed to stimulate ovulation. Different doctors and hospitals may use varying types of ovulation-inducing drugs. We rely on experience to carefully control the dosage to encourage the development of two follicles. The dosage must strike a balance; too few follicles may result in a single pregnancy, or possibly none at all. Conversely, too many follicles could lead to triplets or quadruplets, deviating from our initial goal, which may necessitate selective fetal reduction.

Therefore, we must maintain strict control over the number of embryos, typically targeting twins. However, for those facing fertility challenges or of advanced age, we might aim for three follicles. Keep in mind that triplets are possible in this scenario, although less common, and this requires precise management based on the doctor’s experience and expertise.

Once the follicles have matured, intercourse is recommended. About 7 days after intercourse, a urine pregnancy test can be performed. If pregnancy is confirmed, wait another 7 days before conducting an ultrasound examination to determine the number of embryos. If you have achieved the desired number of embryos, such as twins, that’s wonderful. If not, you can decide whether to attempt another pregnancy or continue with the current one.

It’s important to note that this technique does not guarantee twins since individual variations and the type and dosage of medications used can vary. Medications are manufactured by pharmaceutical companies and acquired by hospitals from pharmaceutical suppliers, not concocted by doctors. Consequently, doctors cannot guarantee the efficacy of these medications.

So, if you have this specific desire and are willing to accept the risks and potential outcomes of a non-twin pregnancy, you can opt for natural ovulation induction instead of pursuing in vitro fertilization (IVF) or artificial insemination. IVF and artificial insemination also do not guarantee twins and come with significantly higher costs. Natural pregnancy, including hospitalization, typically costs around 10,000 RMB at most. In contrast, IVF or artificial insemination can cost four to five times more. Ultimately, the results are comparable.

When faced with these choices, it’s crucial to weigh your options, consider the risks and costs, and make a decision based on your needs and circumstances.
