Overview
Adenomyosis can lead to recurrent miscarriage because the lesions grown onto the middle layer of the uterine wall (myometrium) competes for space, nutrients, and blood with the embryo, all of which are essential to its development. Laparoscopic surgery can safely remove the lesions on the myometrium. However, the best treatment method is to have a thorough diagnosis to ensure that you are free from complications of Adenomyosis. If you do have complications, you should receive treatment for those conditions, too; otherwise, you will still continue to miscarry.
Antai hospital uses 3D laparoscopy to diagnose and treat Adenomyosis. As a specialist in recurrent miscarriage, we also check for all the possible complications and provide patients with corresponding treatment to ensure that their next pregnancy will be successful.
How Adenomyosis Leads to Miscarriage
Adenomyosis is where endometrial lesions are abnormally grown onto the myometrium. Every month, the displaced lesions continue to thicken and bleed. Over time, the lesions will accumulate, leading to scar lesions and adhesion formation deep inside the myometrium. As the lesions continue to thicken, your uterus will become enlarged; it will become big, round, and hard (ball-like).
Adenomyosis will significantly increase your likelihood of miscarriage because it will lead to insufficient uterine blood flow. As scar formation and adhesions do not transport blood, it will obstruct uterine blood flow as a whole. The displaced lesions also compete with the embryo for blood, nutrients, and space with the embryo. All these will lead to the underdevelopment of the embryo. Gradually, the embryo will not be able to sustain itself, and a miscarriage will occur. If left untreated, the greater the risk for complications and the more complex the treatment will become. As a result, you will most likely suffer from recurrent miscarriages and even infertility for more severe cases.
Complications of Adenomyosis
- Anti-embryonic Antibodies
The most prevalent complication of Adenomyosis is a reproductive immunological disorder caused by anti-embryonic antibodies in the maternal body. Anti-embryonic antibodies are mostly produced in the maternal body during an induced abortion. Many patients with Adenomyosis will go through miscarriages and undergo multiple induced abortions to ensure that all pregnancy lesions are cleared from the uterus and produce anti-embryonic antibodies as a result.
Anti-embryonic antibodies will lead to recurrent miscarriages as it attacks the embryo in every pregnancy. Hence, patients must undergo an immunity treatment only available at Antai hospital, on top of adenomyosis treatment.
- Chocolate Cysts
Patients with Adenomyosis might also have chocolate cysts on the ovaries. Should chocolate cysts be spotted during the surgery for Adenomyosis, the chocolate cysts will be removed in the process as well. Afterward, patients will require progesterone supplementation, which is essential for proper implantation and creating a hospital environment for the embryo to grow. Otherwise, a miscarriage will still occur due to poor ovarian function.
Indicators of Adenomyosis
The primary indicator of Adenomyosis is dysmenorrhea, where patients will suffer from extreme period pains. It is a result of a lack of oxygen to the uterus due to insufficient uterine blood flow.
Most patients will also have a history of recurrent early miscarriage. Before miscarrying, the first symptom is slow-rising hCG levels, where it was not doubling every three days as expected, despite normal progesterone levels. Once progesterone levels start to drop, then an inevitable miscarriage will soon occur.
B-scan ultrasonography can directly indicate if the patient has Adenomyosis.
Antai Hospital’s Adenomyosis Treatment
Adenomyosis should be treated before pregnancy because the risk of miscarriage is too high, and you cannot receive treatment if you are pregnant. Unfortunately, most of such pregnancies will end up in an inevitable miscarriage because it is an organic disease. Hence, prevention is always better than cure, and a thorough check should be done, especially if you have had a miscarriage before.
However, please do not be too discouraged if you do miscarry because Antai hospital has an effective treatment for Adenomyosis.
- Antai hospital’s physicians will first accurately spot all displaced lesions using laparoscopic ultrasonography.
- The physicians will remove all displaced lesions via 3D laparoscopic surgery.
- The physicians will sew back the sites of removal using an absorbable suture thread.
Recovery
The uterus might be smaller after the surgery. However, the uterus is made of smooth muscles that will grow back to a standard size 6-12 months after the surgery. At most, the recovery will take two years for severe cases. Hence, patients should be able to get pregnant after half a year to 2 years, depending on the scale of the surgery.
There is no need to worry about any uterine ruptures after the surgery because the smooth muscles can self-regenerate. The absorbable suture thread is made to withstand high strain and forces to prevent any rupture.

Hi how much would this surgery cost?
it is 8000 USD, which covers all the treatment and hospitalization in Beijing CHINA.
Greetings!
Diagnosed with Adenomyosis yesterday (May 05, 2023) thru Ultrasound. I’m 41 yrs old but no kids yet. I always suffered dysmenorrhea pain like 1-2 days on and off pain but I have a regular period and normal period. I just thought that dysmenorrhea pain is normal which I’ve observed with others as well, since I have a regular period and normal (never had a heavy period)
I’m interested to know about the 3D Laparoscopic surgery and how much it cost since am still interested to get pregnant and at least 1 baby.
I’m looking forward with your positive and helpful response.
Thank you! Keep safe!
Sincerely,
Ms. Joy
