Short Cervix & Late Miscarriages – Antai Hospital

Overview

A short cervix is a type of cervical insufficiency that can lead to late miscarriages.

A normal cervix is 4 to 5 cm when not pregnant. Also, a normal cervix is made of more connective tissues than muscle tissues. Connective tissues are not as elastic as muscle tissues, so the cervical openings will not easily dilate once there is pressure until it is labor time.

However, a congenital short cervix only has roughly 2 cm of cervix. Additionally, it is made of more muscle tissues than connective tissues, so it expands and dilates easily under pressure. Hence, once the fetus reaches a certain weight, the cervix can no longer support the pressure and open without pain, resulting in late miscarriages or pre-term births.

Short Cervix Treatment

Antai hospital devised a treatment method to prevent late miscarriages caused by a short cervix. Note that it does not treat the short cervix itself, but it is a highly effective method to maintain a pregnancy to full term.

Double Antai Cervical Ring

To maintain the pregnancy to full term, the surgeons will secure two Antai Cervical Ring to imitate the anatomy of a normal cervix.

There are two cervical openings called the internal and external orifice that secures the fetus in place, especially for the internal orifice.

The first cervical ring is secured 2 cm above the base of the cervix to imitate an external orifice. The second cervical ring is secured 2 cm above the first cervical ring to imitate an internal orifice. In this way, the newly reconstructed cervix is now 4 cm, which is a normal cervix length.

Not only is the cervix lengthened, the openings are also strengthened because the cervical rings are firm enough to withstand pressure, just like a normal cervix, and patients can carry a baby to full term with no problem.

Ideally, patients should receive treatment before getting pregnant. However, if a short cervix is diagnosed only during pregnancy, patients can only receive treatment before 12 weeks of pregnancy.

This is an effective method with no side effects for women with a short cervix to maintain a pregnancy—contractual treatment of a full refund policy available. Contact us for more information.
