MRKH Syndrome
Introduction:
Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser Syndrome (MRKH Syndrome), also know as Mullerian agenesis is the congenital complete or partial absence of the uterus, cervix, and parts of the upper vaginal canal. This rare and congenital disorder is characterized with the failure of the Mullerian Ducts to develop during embryogenesis. MRKH syndrome affects 1 in 4000 – 5000 Women with this disorder can still develop healthy secondary sexual characteristic but will suffer from primary amenorrhea (absence of menstrual cycle). Most often, when a patient does not begin her menstrual cycle, it is often an initial sign of MRKH syndrome. However, the different types and severity of MRKH syndrome can vary from patient to patient.
MAYER-ROKITANSKY KÜSTER-HAUSER SYNDROME TYPE I: An isolated and congenital absence of only the uterus and parts of the upper vaginal canal.
MAYER-ROKITANSKY KÜSTER-HAUSER SYNDROME TYPE II: Beside the abnormalities of the uterus and vaginal canal, it has an additional abnormality in the kidneys and skeletal system.
Symptoms:

Cause:
As of current, there is still no clear understanding of the cause behind this rare disorder, but it is clearly genetics in nature. It is most certainly an inherited condition, and several studies are being done to understand which exact genes are associated with this disorder.
Diagnosis:
Diagnosis for MRKH is done via gynecologic ultrasonography which can show the either partially or completely absence of the cervix, uterus, and vagina.
