Often, cervicitis results from a sexually transmitted infection, such as chlamydia or gonorrhea. Cervicitis can develop from noninfectious causes, too. Successful treatment of cervicitis involves treating the underlying cause of the inflammation.

- Allergic reactions. An allergy, either to contraceptive spermicides or to latex in condoms, may lead to cervicitis. A reaction to feminine hygiene products, such as douches or feminine deodorants, also can cause cervicitis.
- Bacterial overgrowth. An overgrowth of some of the bacteria that are normally present in the vagina (bacterial vaginosis) can lead to cervicitis.
Symptoms

Simple cervical hypertrophy will not affect pregnancy, but serious cervicitis, can cause endometritis, fallopian tube ovaritis, fallopian tube adhesion, obstruction, resulting in infertility.

Diagnosis
Cervical hypertrophy can be confirmed by gynaecological examination, colposcopy, when necessary and also a standard cervical TCT examination. Pelvic examination via speculum is also beneficial in the diagnosis of cervicitis.
Treatment
Antibiotics are prescribed for STIs such as gonorrhea, chlamydia or bacterial infections, including bacterial vaginosis. For patients with hyperplasia and extensive erosion of the cervix involving the cervical canal, and/or suspected malignant transformation, Antai Hospital performs a tapered cervical resection via electronic miniature hysteroscopy. Excise the tissue and send it for laboratory examination to confirm presence of any malignant changes. This operation does not cause any scarring and it leaves the cervix intact. The operation is painless and will not affect later fertility and patient health, post-operative. Get in touch with us for more information today.
