What is a chemical pregnancy?
Biochemical pregnancy has been variously defined by different authors. All these definitions express the same idea. Sher defined a “chemical pregnancy” as one where in spite of the beta hCG test being “positive”, the pregnancy fails to progress to the point of ultrasound confirmation. This implies that a chemical pregnancy is a very early pregnancy loss, characterised by a positive pregnancy test (β-hCG level) which, however, is not maintained. Moreover such a pregnancy never reaches the stage where a gestational sac is seen on ultrasound examination. Therefore, the name “chemical” pregnancy, since the gestation is diagnosed only by chemical means. In contrast, a so-called clinical pregnancy is characterised by the fact that it has reached a stage where the gestation can be seen on ultrasound examination. Implantation failure is a secondary cause, and although it takes place, the pregnancy does not develop normally, the β-hCG levels decline and no pregnancy sac can be seen on ultrasound scanning. As such this pregnancy is only diagnosed biochemically
Chemical pregnancies are therefore classified as extremely early recurrent miscarriages & recurrent immunological miscarriage due to their underlying cause.
What is the cause of a chemical pregnancy?
Chemical pregnancies occur due to interference from the maternal immune system, specifically the anti-embryonic antibodies. These anti-embryonic antibodies were the scientific discovery of Dr Chen Fenglin and are responsible for up to 90& of unexplainable recurrent miscarriages, which also explains why the happen so quickly within just a span of 3-6 weeks of pregnancy.
Chemical pregnancies are not one-off problems, nor are they random.
What are the symptoms of a chemical pregnancy?
As it happens at such an early stage, you may not have any pregnancy symptoms apart from your positive test and it would be too early to be able to see anything on a scan. Some women may not even realise that they have experienced a chemical pregnancy as they might not have taken a test or have missed their period. Some symptoms include:
- A positive pregnancy test that can quickly turn negative
- Mild spotting a week before their period is due
- Very mild abdominal cramping
- Vaginal bleeding even after testing positive
- Low HcG levels if your doctor takes a blood test
How do we treat chemical pregnancies?
If you had a chemical pregnancy or suffering from recurrent early miscarriage, you should do an anti-embryonic antibodies diagnosis. Once it is a confirmed case, then you must receive an immunotherapy jab from Antai hospital. The injections serve to neutralise the antibodies from interfering with the pregnancy, and it allows the pregnancy to sustain and develop normally for the entire gestation period. IIt is highly effective, with a success rate of 95% and a full refund guaranteed.
