Hi, my name is Naeemah and I am currently pregnant with my third child. I have been diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum. In this pregnancy, I started vomiting as early as five weeks so soon after my missed period, which was surprising for my husband and I, but I think looking back at it I think it was a sign for what was to come. So as my pregnancy progressed my vomiting got worse.
(00:32)
This was just expected actually because with my other pregnancies I also had vomiting and I remember with my firstborn my vomiting lasted a while– until I was about, I believe, 16 or 17 weeks pregnant. But at the time I had not been diagnosed or treated for anything.
(00:56)
With my second pregnancy, I don’t recall a prolonged vomiting period, but I remember just feeling awful a lot of mornings. I remember just struggling to just get to work, do my job. I recall even coming in late some days just because it was hard for me to get out of bed. I just felt awful. So with my current pregnancy, I can honestly say this is the worst experience so far. So before receiving treatment at Antai Hospital, I was vomiting on some days half a dozen times, two or three times a day.
(01:45)
And I had nausea that left me feeling like I couldn’t get out of bed. I couldn’t even do simple household tasks. I was not a normal person anymore. And I was always thirsty. I was very dehydrated. I did not sleep well either. I remember just having insomnia some nights, which left me with bad headaches. And I was also drooling at night. So after starting treatment for my condition, I remember having results right away.
(02:18)
So after my second injection, my nausea stopped. After my third injection, the vomiting ceased and I remember just feeling great. So there were some side effects. And they weren’t very bad side effects but there were side effects. The first one that I noticed right away was having a dry mouth. I remember drinking a lot of water—and that didn’t even seem to help, you know, but that lasted several hours and then it stopped.
(02:53).
And the second side effect was a feeling—something—I can’t really describe it—it was a feeling I had. Maybe it was the medication taking effect. And the third side effect was feeling a little bit lethargic, you know, just low energy. But like I said these side effects decreased the more injections I got.
(03:17)
So I received six injections initially. So after my sixth injection, I was smooth sailing for a week. No issues and then until, like, one night I didn’t have a great night’s sleep. Woke up the next day with a headache and feeling nauseated as if I were going to still throw up. So, I went back to Antai Hospital for a seventh injection. And after that injection I remember just feeling lethargic and– even the next day. And, again, everything stopped. Nausea went away and I was smooth sailing for a week until one night I had, you know, I didn’t have a good sleep. And the next morning I woke up with a headache and then I threw up.
(04:08)
So this happened nearly a week ago. I did not go back for an eighth injection, but that’s been okay because I’ve been feeling fine since that time. I’ve had no incidents at all. So overall, I feel like I’ve had great results with the treatment so I’m super grateful to Dr. Chen and his team at Antai Hospital for giving me this opportunity to, you know, be treated and regain my life back. I am currently 18 weeks pregnant and things are going super well and I feel like I can enjoy my pregnancy. So thank you.
