Antai Cervical Ring(ACR) for Recurrent Late Miscarriage

Antai Cervical Ring is a proprietary medical technology invented by Dr Chen Fenglin of Antai Hospital; designed, and innovated for the following 2 purposes:

  • To prevent and treat late miscarriages, including potential late threatened miscarriage (pregnancy week between 13-34)
  • To enhance and strengthen cervical functions

Although late miscarriage is not as prevalent as early miscarriage and sometimes deemed “as too late to save” by other hospitals, Antai Hospital possesses the effective treatment method and technology that can still save your pregnancy.

Indications

Antai Cervical Ring is designed specifically for treatment of the primary causes of late miscarriages, which are:

Cervical Incompetence (weak cervical tissue, causing premature dilation of the cervix)

Congenital CI

It is not uncommon that patients have congenital cervical incompetence, a condition that they are born with. The ratio of muscle tissues and connective tissues in the cervical neck is found to be irregular/abnormal. These patient’s cervix and the uterine cavity share similar composition ratio, meaning they both have more muscles than connective tissues. This can lead to a potential threatened late miscarriage or worse, late miscarriage.

Acquired CI

Cervical Incompetence can also be brought about by having experienced birth trauma, an injury inflicted on the cervix during previous childbirth.

Short Cervix (short cervical neck, not long enough to sustain a pregnancy)

Congenital Short Cervix

Some women are born naturally with a shorter cervix than normal which can be diagnosed via B-ultrasound. A normal length of the cervix should be around 3.5cm to 4.5cm; and is about one third of the uterus.  These patients have cervix that are far shorter than normal cervix, which leads to potential miscarriages during pregnancies.

Short Cervix is often described as the opposite of the condition of naïve uterus, where the cervical neck is longer than the uterine cavity.

Acquired Short Cervix

You may also develop a shorter cervix if you have undergone cervical conization surgery that is used to remove cancerous tissues from the cervical wall for the treatment of cervical cancer. It can be accurately diagnosed via B-ultrasound. Please read more about short cervix here.

How is the Antai Ring inserted onto the cervical neck?

The Antai Cervical Ring is made of a biologically safe and stable material, which is surgically secured on the internal orifice of the cervical neck via: transvaginal surgery or 3D-Laparoscopy.

  • Transvaginal Surgery
  • 3D-Laparoscopy
  • Combination of both Transvaginal Surgery and 3D-Laparoscopy
Treatment

For Cervical Insufficiency, Antai Hospital categorizes treatment into the following 4:

Pre-Pregnancy (Before getting pregnant)

  • Surgery is effectively conducted via 3D-Laparoscopy with no complications.
  • Antai Hospital offers a contractual treatment for this condition with full refund guaranteed.
  • This is a form of preventive treatment.

Early Pregnancy

  • Patient will be first evaluated on her medical history, whether she has a history of miscarriage.
  • Surgery is still effectively conducted via 3D-Laparoscopy with no complications.
  • The distinct feature of this type of condition is that at this stage the inner cervical os has yet to open/dilated.
  • Antai Hospital offers a contractual treatment for this condition with full refund guaranteed.
  • Despite the patient already being pregnant, it is still considered a form of preventive treatment.

Emergency

  • At this stage, the internal cervical os has dilated and patient experiences symptoms of a threatened late miscarriage.
  • Surgery to secure the Antai Ring on the internal cervical is conducted either via Transvaginal surgery or via 3D-Laparoscopy.
  • This is a high-risk surgery but Antai has managed to maintain the success rate at 80% for several years.
  • Due to the high risk of the surgery, and several medications that are involved such as Atosiban, specific antibiotics for post-surgery infection treatment etc, it makes the cost of this surgery slightly higher.
  • Patients must understand that if they do not undergo this treatment, their threatened miscarriage will quickly develop into an inevitable miscarriage, but Antai Hospital cannot offer a guarantee of success.

Acute Treatment (to rescue and salvage whatever possible)

  • At this stage, both the inner and outer orifice has fully dilated.
  • Patients experience symptoms of late threatened miscarriage.
  • This treatment is a high-risk procedure with no guarantees of success; Despite the fact, patients are still highly recommended to proceed with treatment, where there is a chance of success instead of none.
  • Due to the high-risk nature of the surgery and the use of several medications to protect both mother and child, the cost of treatment is expensive.
  • In case of failure, Antai Hospital offers an all-expense paid prevention treatment of inserting Antai ring on your cervix for your next pregnancy.
  • Surgery must be done with both 3D-Laparoscopy and transvaginal method to have the best outcome.

For Short Cervix, Antai Hospital offers treatment as shown below:

  • By securing a double ring onto the cervical neck to significantly strengthen and lengthen the cervix, promoting a successful pregnancy.
  • Surgery is done via 3D-Laparoscopy.
  • This treatment is also guaranteed by Antai Hospital with a full refund policy.
  • Conventional treatment of bedrest or pelvic rest, where they restrict the patient’s movements throughout the gestational period is ineffective and causes more harm to both mother and child than good. A miscarriage can still occur because not only is there nothing preventing the internal orifice from dilating, but the fetus and attachments are growing larger and faster as the day passes, creating immense pressure, which will lead to a potential inevitable miscarriage.
